Galapagos 3D sees naturalist explore remote islands in stunning 3D

Sky and Atlantic Productions are delighted to announce the 3D TV world premiere of David Attenborough’s ground breaking documentary film The Bachelor King 3D, which airs on Sky 3D on Saturday, 31^st December 2011 at 8pm.

New and exclusive to Sky, the film was shot in stunning 3D on the sub-Antarctic island of South Georgia over a period of five months and follows the extraordinary lives of King Penguins, to imagine what one penguin’s life could be.  The Bachelor King 3D is written and presented by multi-award winning natural history broadcaster David Attenborough. Atlantic Productions and Sky have announced today that they have joined forces to create a brand new production company, Colossus Productions, to develop original 3D programming for both UK and international audiences. Programmes made by Colossus will be showcased on Sky 3D, Europe’s first dedicated 3D TV channel, before being distributed to other platforms and countries. Read more…

First Life with David Attenborough, broadcast in the US on Discovery Channel, has received three nominations in the International News & Documentary Emmy® Awards. The full list for the 32nd Annual News and Documentary Emmy® Awards was announced today by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). The landmark programme, for which David Attenborough travelled the globe in search of the earliest animals, was nominated in the ‘Outstanding Nature Programming’, ‘Outstanding Writing’ and ‘Outstanding Graphic Design and Art Direction’ categories. Flying Monsters 3D with David Attenborough, an Atlantic Productions film with Sky 3D, has become the first stereoscopic 3D programme to win a BAFTA award. Last night’s award ceremony saw leading naturalist Sir David Attenborough and Flying Monsters 3D producer Anthony Geffen take to the stage to accept the prestigious trophy for best Specialist Factual programme.

Anthony Geffen remarked that David Attenborough, who presents the film, is the first and only person to have won BAFTA awards for programmes filmed in black and white, colour, high definition and now 3D. Read more…

Flying Monsters 3D has become the first stereoscopic 3D programme to be nominated for a BAFTA award. In the official nominations for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts’ annual Television Awards, announced today, the film was nominated in the Specialist Factual category.

Flying Monsters 3D, written and presented by David Attenborough, is a groundbreaking 3D film in which the world’s leading naturalist sets out to uncover the truth about pterosaurs, a group of reptiles that took control of the skies during the age of the dinosaurs. Read more…
