Making Flying Monsters 3D

One-Hour Special for Sky

When David Attenborough joined a film crew to make the groundbreaking film Flying Monsters 3D, they were taking on a monumental challenge. Using state of the art 3D technology, their job was to tell the story of pterosaurs, creatures that died out around 65 million years ago.

This film takes us behind-the-scenes of the making of one of the most ambitious documentary films ever. As well as filming with unwieldy 3D technology at locations around the world, the team also had to bring the pterosaurs and their world back to life using computer-generated imagery that could both compete with Hollywood special effects, and stand up as scientifically accurate.
